Senedd Member Hefin David must explain how he obtained confidential information around the departure of a former council chief executive, Plaid Cymru councillor Gary Enright is demanding.
It was reported last month that Christine Harrhy, who received a £209,000 package from Caerphilly Council, had a difficult relationship with council leader Sean Morgan.
Speaking in the Senedd last month Dr Hefin David was reported as saying that the allegations against Councillor Sean Morgan by Christine Harrhy were proven to be spurious and vexatious”. But Councillor Gary Enright has questioned how he could possibly know that.
Councillor Gary Enright said: “The issue is how can Dr David reach that conclusion when we were told as councillors that the investigation officer’s remit didn’t include making a decision on whether Christina Harrhy’s allegations were vexatious or spurious.
“I asked that very question and was told by the Head of Human Resources for Caerphilly Council that that hadn’t been determined by the investigation officer. So I’m very much at odds with Dr David’s comments.
“Has there been another leak with potentially speculative information shared with the Senedd member for Caerphilly? Perhaps he has developed clairvoyant or psychic abilities since being elected to the Senedd.
“If, however, Dr David is repeating something he has heard or been told third-hand, then he should know better than that. I would have expected a far more professional approach to this issue than merely repeating gossip, as that is not doing due diligence. I would suggest that might bring the danger of possible legal action at his door,” added the Llanbradach ward councillor.
